New York Film Festival, noncompetitive film festival held annually at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City. It is considered to be one of the most prestigious film festivals in the United States. The New York Film Festival was first held in 1963 and featured films from the United States and from countries around the world. Its organizer, Richard Roud, had been inspired by the success of the London Film Festival, for which he served as program director.
