Mitsuko Uchida (born December 20, 1948, Atami, Shizuoka, Japan) is a Japanese-born British classical pianist and conductor whose dynamic and emotional interpretations of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Schubert, and Ludwig van Beethoven made her one of the leading classical musicians of her day. Uchida was raised in the coastal town of Atami, about 60 miles (almost 100 km) southwest of Tokyo, the youngest of three children of a diplomat.
