Tom Ridge (born August 26, 1945, Erie, Pennsylvania, U.S.) is an American politician who was governor of Pennsylvania (1995–2001) and who later served as the first director of the Office of Homeland Security (2001–03) and the first secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (2003–05). Ridge earned a scholarship to Harvard University (B.S., 1967). In 1969, after his first year at Dickinson School of Law, Carlisle, Pennsylvania, he was drafted to serve in the Vietnam War.
