Chillicothe, city, seat (1839) of Livingston county, north-central Missouri, U.S. It lies near the Grand River, 90 miles (145 km) northeast of Kansas City. Settled about 1830, it was laid out in 1837 and named for Chillicothe, Ohio. When the Hannibal and St. Joseph Railroad came through in 1859, Chillicothe developed as a trade centre for a farming, livestock-raising, and dairying region. Its manufactures include wire rope, animal husbandry products, filters for farm and road machinery, and gloves. Chillicothe is the site of a vocational technical school (1967).
