In 2011, Angela Alsobrooks became the first woman to hold the position of the state’s attorney in Prince George’s County, Maryland. In 2018 she became the first Black woman to serve as the county executive in Maryland. In November 2024, she was elected as the first Black U.S. senator from the state of Maryland.
